Where the discount codes come from
Each shop on Penny o' Pocket UK runs an affiliate programme on the Awin network. When a shop’s programme approves Penny o' Pocket UK, the discount codes and promotions the shop adds to its programme reach Penny o' Pocket UK with a title, rules, a code (when there is one) and an end date. Penny o' Pocket UK publishes each code with the rules and the end date the shop provided.
Until a shop’s programme approves Penny o' Pocket UK, the shop’s page has no discount codes. It links to the shop’s official website and, when a shop guide exists, shows the shop’s official delivery and returns policies.
A promotion with a future start date appears on Penny o' Pocket UK when it starts. The code itself appears after you click "Get code". That click opens the shop’s website through a Penny o' Pocket UK link, which lets the shop pay a commission for the referral. The price you pay doesn’t change.
How often the list changes
- Penny o' Pocket UK checks the shops’ affiliate programmes automatically, at least once a day. A new discount code appears after the next check.
- A discount code leaves the active list on the end date the shop provided.
- A discount code that the shop removes from its programme leaves at the next check.
- If a programme’s response comes back empty or incomplete, discount codes aren’t removed all at once: they stay until the following checks confirm the change.
What the dates mean
- Valid until
- The end date the shop provided, shown in UK time (GMT or BST). With no date, the shop didn’t say when the code ends.
- Ended on
- The day the code came off the site. Its page stays up for 30 days with that notice and then points to the shop’s page.
- Updated
- The last real change to a page’s content: a new or ended discount code, or shop information checked again.
- Checked on
- For a shop fact (delivery, returns, discounts), the day it was checked on the shop’s official page.
What Penny o' Pocket UK doesn’t do
- Penny o' Pocket UK doesn’t test each code at checkout before publishing it.
- Penny o' Pocket UK doesn’t create discount codes or copy codes from other websites.
- Penny o' Pocket UK doesn’t keep an expired discount code in the active list.
- Penny o' Pocket UK doesn’t estimate shop information: anything that isn’t on an official shop page is left out.
- Penny o' Pocket UK doesn’t charge you anything and doesn’t ask you to sign up to get a code.
Shop guides: delivery, returns and discounts
Besides discount codes, some shop pages have a shop guide with what the shop itself publishes: free delivery, returns, price match, payment and buy now, pay later options (such as Klarna, Clearpay or PayPal Pay in 3, when the shop offers them), first-order offers, and student, NHS or Blue Light discounts.
The facts are collected from the shop’s official pages (help centre, returns policy, terms) with the help of AI tools, and each one is checked against the page it came from. The passage that supports each fact is kept on file as evidence. On the shop page, every fact shows a link to the official page and the date it was checked. Anything that can’t be confirmed on an official page is left out.
Each fact has a deadline to be checked again: first-order offers within 45 days, delivery within 60 days, buy now, pay later within 90 days, payment methods, price match, student and NHS discounts and loyalty schemes within 120 days and returns, apps, customer service and how to use a discount code within 180 days. A fact that passes its deadline without a new check comes off the page.
Comparisons between shops use only these facts, ordered by the value each shop publishes: shops with free delivery, returns policies at UK shops, price match policies at UK shops, first-order discounts at UK shops, shops with student discounts and shops with NHS and Blue Light discounts.
Which pages search engines index
Pages that don’t have enough to offer yet stay online for visitors but ask search engines not to index them. They are indexed on their own once they meet these rules:
- A shop page: the shop has an active discount code, had one in the last 90 days, or has a published shop guide.
- A shop guide is published with at least 5 checked facts on 3 topics and 2 answered questions.
- A category page: at least one active discount code, or at least 3 indexed shops and a comparison that shows a difference between them.
- A comparison page, such as free delivery or returns policies: at least 8 shops that publish the value it compares.
- A discount code page: only while the code is active. After it ends, the page stays up for 30 days, marked as ended and not indexed, and then redirects to the shop’s page.
Found a problem? Tell us
If a discount code didn’t work, a rule is different on the shop’s website or information is out of date, email hello@pennyopocket.com with the link to the Penny o' Pocket UK page and what happened (a screenshot from the shop helps). Because Penny o' Pocket UK doesn’t test every code, these reports are how problems reach us.
